Our History

Central Illinois Business OutReach (CIBOR) was founded in 2021 to promote LGBT influence through business ownership, workforce equality and active consumerism, creating prosperity to support equality, diversity and inclusion. We are the first LGBT Chamber of Commerce in the Central Illinois, and the only one serving the Capital Area.

In April of 2021, Shane Conrad saw a need to give Central Illinois LGBT business owners, consumers and professionals a place to meet, exchange ideas and resources and support each other in a professional business setting outside the existing social environments of the community. He is actively preparing to hold a meeting with key business owners to gauge their interest in creating the area’s first LGBT Chamber of Commerce.

The group plans to contact the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) for guidance. In the following months a core group of ten individuals will be formed and set a goal of August 2021 as the official launch date. These people will become the inaugural board of directors: Shane Conrad, President;, Vice-President;, Treasurer;, Secretary; at Large.

The founding members of the CIBOR Board of Directors.

April of 2021 is full with logistics: incorporation with the state corporation commission; domain names obtained and this website development; and by-laws written once the inaugural board is formed. The directors adopted CIBOR’s logo as an homage to the area’s professional heritage and adopted the tagline “Developing diversity, creating community” to promote the mission ideal of inclusion in the community. The chamber’s official title of Central Illinois Business OutReach grew from the consistent thread of inclusion versus exclusion.
